Things to know and what to expect

  • This weekend is not intended to be a conversion experience, but is for Christian growth by active, baptized members of a Christian congregation.
  • An application does not guarantee acceptance.
  • Applicants who are not accepted for reasons other than overflow will not be reconsidered for this weekend, but can resubmit an application for a following weekend.
  • Persons who have experienced recent trauma (death, divorce, marital problems, job loss, etc.) should consult with their pastor before applying.
  • The weekend schedule for eating and rest can be irregular, but some accommodations can be made if special needs exist and are known.
  • Showers are provided once on the weekend at a YMCA or at a school locker room having community type shower facilities.
  • Because the weekends are held in churches, many people will be sleeping in the same area on either cots or air mattresses which are provided. You need to bring your own sleeping bag or bedding.
  • Husbands and wives are asked to attend on consecutive weekends. Like many other things in marriage this, too, is best if experienced by both partners.
  • Weekenders should plan on staying for the complete weekend.
  • The weekend is NOT a retreat. It is an encounter with Christ experienced in community with other people.
  • All worship services and singing, are accompanied by the use of guitars.
  • Each day on the weekend Eucharist is celebrated.
  • Weekenders with concerns about the weekend are encouraged to talk with their pastors.
  • Weekenders should be open to speak with their pastor about their experience at Via de Cristo.
